Soft Materials Workgroup

Welcome to the Soft Materials Workgroup

The goal of this group is to bring together researchers with an interest in molecular forces, biophysics, molecular electronics and fluid dynamics to discuss their work and explore collaborations.

WORKSHOPS

The 3rd Southeast Meeting on Soft Materials will be held
Friday, May 15, 2009, at Georgia Tech.

(When looking at the map, Physics is #81)

The workshop will bring together researchers with an interest in soft materials, molecular forces, biophysics, molecular electronics, and fluid dynamics to discuss their work and explore collaborations.

At this workshop we will have 3 invited speakers as well as a Keynote Speaker:

*         Harold Craighead (A&E Physics, Cornell University)

*         Jennifer Curtis (Physics, Georgia Tech)

*         Cheng Zhu (BME, Georgia Tech)

*         Moonhor Ree (PAL Synchrotron, Korea)

The rest of the time will be allotted to SHORT presentations (sound bites), which are intended to give the audience a flavor for the research topic and techniques used to address the research problem discussed. We really hope and expect that students will attend whether or not their faculty advisors can attend. As always, we are planning two workshops per year, one at Georgia Tech and one at Emory.

This workshop is free and breakfast/lunch/snacks/coffee will be provided.

The Workshop will begin with breakfast and registration at 8:30 a.m. and end at 5:00 p.m.

The location is the Ground Floor of the New Marcus Nanotechnology Building on the Georgia Tech Campus.

If you plan to attend the Workshop, please register before Friday, May 8.

Registration form (attached) and 3 slides of your sound bite (3 to 5 minute summary of your current research) should be sent by email to samantha.king@physics.gatech.edu.

*NEW* Sound Bites will be max: 3 PowerPoint slides.  Please save them by your last name.

More information (including registration form, directions with parking instructions, schedule, maps, abstracts, etc.) will be available at http://www.softmaterials.gatech.edu
